Lift Kingsley Careers Programme is delivered using the Gatsby Benchmarks, the Careers national quality standard; providing a programme of activities for students delivered in partnership with employers, businesses and external providers.
In summary all students at Lift Kingsley have opportunities to learn about different employment sectors, academic and vocational qualifications and apprenticeships through activities including: drop down days, assemblies, tutor programme and PSHE, work experience and careers experience days, post-16 options evening and enrichment activities.
Our careers programme is delivered to students in a number of ways: one to one guidance session with a L6 qualified careers adviser, workshops, talks and visits. Teachers often relate their lessons to careers, so students understand the relevance of their subjects to the world of work. Students are given opportunities to learn about different employment sectors, academic and vocational pathways, and apprenticeships through; meeting employers and employees, visiting speakers, experiences of the workplace and visits to universities and career fairs, drop down days, assemblies, tutor programme, PHSE, career guidance interviews and enrichment activities.
Our careers intent for each year:
Year 7 and 8 - Learn about jobs that exist now, in the future. They begin to connect the content and skills developed in their subjects to the world of work. To understand how subjects, skills, volunteering and extra- curricular activities link to the world of work. They are able to identify their own skills and preferences and how these relate to different types of work.
Year 9 - Understand the qualities, attitudes and skills needed for employment. They receive appropriate advice and guidance to make informed choices about their GCSE options subjects and how these link to future careers. They begin to explore a wider range of careers by completing a careers matching quiz.
Year 10 and 11 - Experience the workplace and be able to evidence the skills developed and what it takes to be successful in the world of work. They have an up to date CV. They identify aspirational and realistic routes into further education and employment to secure a positive post 16 destination after year 11. To understand how achievements, experience and circumstances affect plans. They and learn to recognise and challenge stereotypes and barriers.
Year 12 and 13 - Explore university, apprenticeship, training and work options to make an informed decision about their next steps and identify qualifications that are appropriate for them in order to secure a positive destination. They can confidently use a range of careers websites, online platforms and other careers resources to manage decisions about next steps and careers. They create a linkedIn account and know how to manage reputation online.
